  • Outcome

Studio Brief 1:

Micro Genre's of music - thoroughly research a micro-genre of music from the link within the studio briefing. Research should be extended with the intention that you become an expert in that genre. That micro-genre will become the focus for the design and production of a new piece of work, whatever that may be, that will be exhibited alongside level 4's work.

Design an object/outcome that celebrates an aspect of the genres specific characteristics: aesthetic, production methods, demographics, politics and key intentions.

Think visually and explore multiple visual approaches:
  • Ringtones
  • Game/Puzzle
  • Map
  • Clothing
  • Furniture
  • Wallpaper

Research must inform the type of outcome you choose:
  • Become an expert
  • Consider the current state of physical media and products within the 21st century music industry and culture. (Format, packaging, editions, objects, digital/physical, distribution)

Deliverables:
  • Documentation of development throughout the project.
  • Final Design
  • 6 Design boards

Studio Brief 2:

Product Range Distribution

Examine graphic design outputs relation to political social and ethical change.
Aim to increase your awareness of historical examples plus contemporary practice that is responsive to issues that arise within the 21st century.
There should be a relevant relationship between the message and the medium used as well as the distribution.
The body of research should explore different ways to make these connections.

Consider the role of a graphic designer in the 21st century, what is their responsibility regarding the social-political change.

Part One:
  • Develop a practical, visual and contextual investigation of a specific subject of your choice.
  • Aim to develop a body of research from primary and secondary sources in order to fully explore the opportunities for an informed creative process.
  • Your research and development of this part of the brief should be documented on your studio practice blog and will be presented as part of your interim concept pitches.
Part Two:
Devise and develop a body of work that both distils your knowledge of an issue that you have identified issue and demonstrates your ability to tap into the market potential for socially, politically and ethically driven design.
Output should still work within a broader creative professional context of graphic design but could be based around ideas of awareness of protest.

Potential Deliverables:

  • Publication/ book zine/ printed matter
  • Digital platforms? Moving image/ animation
