Adidas - Current Running Apps

RunKepper - GPS Running Tracker

iPhone App Logo

UI Design

This is an app that isnt supported by one of the leading brand specialists in running, nor has any similar sponsers. It is focused around getting people out the door and stick with running 'forever'. The app allows for the user to excircise, set goals, sweat and see the progress in a way that they can atler to understand the information in their own way. It also has an adaptable apple watch add on so the app can be used in a more practical way when running.

OVERVIEW
- Track Workouts - Go for a run, walk, jog, bike, or any activity really. With GPS, you’ll get a clear view of your training in real time.
- Set Goals - Have a race, weight, or pace in mind? We can coach you to get there.
- Follow a Plan - We have personalized routines to fit into your busy schedule. And helpful reminders, just in case.
- Stay Motivated - Join challenges, snag exercise rewards, and share achievements with your friends.
- See Progress - This whole running thing works. You track it. We log it. You’ll see the sweat and we’ll show you the numbers to prove it.

Design:
  • Simplistic and clear, white used throughout with a clean and fresh strike of blue; giving an energetic and refreshing look, mirroring the intentions of the app itself.
  • Lots of information on the screen at once, almost becomes lost in translation; could be improved by creating seperate sections for this information elsewhere in the app.
  • San-serif modern design keeping the focus on the purpose of the app itself.
  • Contrasting flat colours to keep the digital basis of the design.

RuntasticRunning & Fitness App

iPhone App Logo
UI Design
The app promotes itself as a community of fitness rather than a running app. It allows the user to keep track of the fitness in any sport theyre doing, although a good feature it makes the promotion and visuals linked to the app confusing.

**APP FEATURES & BENEFITS**
- Track workouts in real time with built-in GPS
- Monitor your personal training diary
- Real Voice Coach: Audio feedback on your first mile
- LIVE Tracking & Cheering: Receive messages & cheers from your friends on your next run
- Manually add activities
- Powersong: Integrated music player & Powersong to give your next workout a boost

Design:
  • Simplistic white and blue flat colours used, which works well but contrasts against the gradient used in the app logo, lacking design consisitency throughout the app.
  • Again lots of information on the screen at the same time, so some of it gets lost.
  • Full menu is accsible from the bottom of the app which is handy for the user to be able to flick from one element to another quickly and simiply.
Nike+ Run Club

iPhone App Logo

UI Design
The app is more of an enabler for current runners to extend their practice rather than enticing new people to start running. The being sponsered by such a big compnay remains consistent with their branding and identity throughout, something I need to be taking into consideration when designing our app for Adidas. The app also works with trainers to give people fitness plans that suit their goals.

Main Features:
- Full apple watch support taking the app into the wearable fitness market, wider audience.
- Tracks and records all runs and any other excircise you ask the app to.
- Audio guided workouts and encouragments, from celebrities and nike certified trainers.
- Personalised coaching
- Trophies and badges to celebrate your achievements in the app.
- Compete against others in leaderboards
- In-run cheers and encouragments from friends.
- Easily share runs with friends.

Design:
  • Simplistic and clean, follows the nike brand guidelines and signature colours.
  • Striking difference between the dark and light elements in the app.
  • Strong consistent type that coincides with that type used in the brands idenentity elsewhere.
  • Logo discretly used on various pages to give a gentle reminder of the sponser.
Apple Watch Faces
Apple watch intergration allows the brand that have sponsered the app to be able to take their technology into a wearable state, something that is very apt at the moment with the rise in sales of fitbits and a generation more concious of general fitness, not only comptetivness. This is a consideration that I will be tackling in my app design, in order for Adidas to take stance against their competitiors.
