Once I completed my initial visual research, into both
previous events at the University have put on, and other similar events, I decided
to look into further visual research. This included creating a Pinterest board
of event branding is which I thought were interesting, this would be a reference
when talking through my initial ideas with the clients themselves in order to
get a feel for what design style they prefer.

The client specifically picked out that they enjoyed the
alternative uses of objects to be able to display the colour of the rainbow
flag. Making sure it is evident but discreet. They also enjoyed the fact that
the darker image which can be seen below in figure 1, looked more like a club
poster something which they found may be engaging towards the target audience.
They also enjoyed the specific typographic experiments, but the focus towards
the LGBTQ community. An example of which is Gilbert Sans typeface specifically
invented to represent LGBTQ events.

Rainbow flag:
As the rainbow flag and been mentioned both in my research
and is such an iconic visual symbol for the LGBTQ+ community I decided to do
some research into the meaning behind it.
LGBT Flag |
The rainbow flag, commonly known as the gay pride
flag or LGBT pride flag, is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender(LGBT) pride and LGBT social movements. Other older uses of rainbow flags include a symbol of peace. The colours
reflect the diversity of the LGBT community, as the flag is
often used as a symbol of gay pride during LGBT rights marches.
While this use of the rainbow flag originated in Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area, the flag is now used worldwide.
