LGBT - Initial Visual Research

To be able to get a better understand of the visual style that events such as these require, I decided to do some research online of different event branding that has recently been designed that engage with a similar audience. Although the audience is for a professional sphere, in terms of the guests who are visiting and talking, and to students who are entering the professional world; the identity needs to still be engaging and encouraging to the student community.

To be able to gain a broader understanding of the type of audience, that would be going to this event, and the type of visuals that will engage them enough to be able to attend. I decided to look into other events that this type of audience would attend, including Visual identities that can be found in protest marches, and other politically fuelled events. As well as events that include TV and media subjects, as it is important find happy medium between the two, therefore ensuring Visual literacy that relates to both the media and the political side of the audiences interests. Whilst retaining Visual identity relations to the LGBT community.

The Circuit
Creative Entrepreneurs are excited to invite you to the fourth edition of their new monthly social The Circuit, a place for creative people to shake off their silos and deep dive into the ever-refreshing pool of London-based creativity and innovation.
Each month The Circuit will feature a pioneer who completely inspires us. They’ll share what they’re up to and where they see the future heading in creativity, innovation and enterprise. For April, we’re delighted to be joined by the multi award-winning creative mastermind Kim-Leigh Pontin, Creative Interaction Director at Sky and Founder of KimLeonTV, an experimental design research practice.
Kim-Leigh’s work blends installation, immersive theatre, AR & VR and has seen her work with the BBC, Amazon and Apple, winning her a plethora of awards including a BAFTA, Emmy & D&AD Pencil. In recent years, as a VR director, Kim-Leigh’s work has been celebrated and shown at the Venice Film Festival in both 2017 and 2018.
The circuit is a creative entrepreneurship networking event that happened in London on a bimonthly basis, it offers creative networking opportunities for big names within different industries to network with new people to the city. What interests me about this branding is the fact that,  colour is used very minimally, in a way that is impactful again to the logotype and background due to its dark nature. The green that has been used here is a particularly eye-catching, due to the background and the way in which the green has been illustrated with multiple fills and line widths, it brings the pattern to the forefront of the piece. This is something I would like to consider within my investigation, as I know it was important the client to be able to represent the rainbow colours away this doesn't overtake information the graphics will be displayed.

Community Journalism Workshop
The Community Journalism Workshop is an opportunity for journalists, citizen journalists and community members to explore the various ways in which the community can interact with the media and current affairs.
We ask: how is our community reported? Who is telling our story? How can we better understand the impact of national and global politics on our local lives?
We are happy to welcome back Kemi Alemoru, News Editor at gal-dem magazine and Crina Boros, investigative data journalist with Investigate Europe. We will also be joined by journalists and community organisers from the Centre for Investigative Journalism, the Media Fund, News Peeks and many others.
Join us for a weekend of discussion, hands on activities and networking opportunities designed to help our community take a more active role in the communication of local stories.
The community journalism workshop is more localised version of the event which I am branding. Developed I am branding causing larger industry names due to the nature of the event itself, being within highest regarded journalism courses in the country. The visual identity is simplistic and keeps the focus on the content. Colour issues sparingly with highlights of yellow contrasting against the black and white space. The titles themselves reflect a newspaper heading title, bringing individual identity of journalism itself. Imagery of the people themselves who are talking within the event is used throughout. This is something I will investigated my visual identity, yet I would like to keep the visuals of the event solely focused around the LGBT community and some way, as this is the niche of the event itself.
