Chosen Rationale

Feedback From Group Crit

I have selected rationale one is my chosen rationale, the group crit in which the group went around each other's work and gave feedback on which rationale would be best for their word also said I should focus on this rationale. I believe I should steer clear of the traditionalist interpretation of the word renewable, instantly thinking about the idea of nature. To me when I think about renewable, I begin to think about heritage and how it may be renewed. In terms of type this is looking at traditionalist types and their basis of where it came from. By looking at types like Baskerville and Caslon, which have traditional values such as serifs, I can investigate their relevance and nature in current date display type – in which Helvetica is most commonly used at the moment. I'll be experimenting with mixing a modernist font alongside a traditionalist font to be able to create a display font which can be used and relevant to modern design wants more, similar to how they were used when they were first produced. I will be experimenting with this adjustments of the line weight, stroke, serifs (edition and reduction of) and the context in which it will be put in.

Rationale 1

"The typeface focuses on ‘renewable’ I want to take a traditionalist type face, and bringing it to relevance into modern design. Traditionalist serif typefaces such as Baskerville and Caslon are used for informative reasons as the style of them strikes the audience with a sense of authority. My typeface flips this on its head, blocked off terminals create straight lines to contrast against their current curved nature. This will allow the typeface to be used as a display font, testing the rules of type trends in design, bringing fonts centuries old to significance in modern works, in an entirely new context."
