Research Into Display Type

When further researching into what makes a successful typeface, I found that typeface must have “distinct, assertive personality”. This is to create a sense of assertion and attitude, making a powerful impact for first impression upon the audience; thus making the representing memorable content. I also found that in terms of legibility, due to the fact that display fonts only really depict small amounts of text by having a larger size, the typeface demands less from the reader - therefore making it more engaging. These are features I'll be including in the design of my typeface; I believe that if I take this into consideration, the typeface I am creating will have impact and be memorable. To be able to give an assertive and distinct personality to my typeface I will be experimenting in techniques not usually used in type face design. I believe from my initial ideas I have the basis to start doing so, as I want to create a display typeface these will be points I will be referencing throughout my design and ensuring I meet. I can experiment with making the typeface having more impact by altering elements such as line weight, addition and deduction of serifs, and also through the use of visual depth techniques.
