Final Crit, and Further Development

After speaking with a tutor about my options, in terms of wanting to portray my meaning and message in the most concise way. Unfortunately, when designing the typeface I was developing in my initial sketches, with the high contrast in line, smaller lines are not visible when viewing typeface from afar. This was picked up within a small crit with a tutor, in which we discussed the development of this silhouette idea. Although I appreciate how this design allowed me to show both letterforms with in one piece, I belief that the typeface would look too similar to Baskerville due to the placement of the serifs - the only difference was being that the line weight had been changed. After consideration of how I can incorporate this idea of presenting both letters together into my design, I turned back to my initial sketches which made me think about using ideas of overlaying to create my typeface. Through the use of overlaying it would allow me to correct typeface that is representative of both base typefaces. From here I need to experiment with the types of overlay I can use to be able to make both letterforms visible on top of each other; for this I will be testing opacity and the use of density. Therefore, I will be meeting the brief and creating a display type which is representative of my adjective, and meets my requirements of creating a typeface that rejuvenates an old-style typeface to bring it to modern design relevance.
