Guide book - Establishing a target audience

Attitude is an award winning British Gay lifestyle magazine distributed worldwide. The first issue appeared in May 1994. The target audience has always been around the same general demographic described as ‘Typically in their 20’s and 30’s with income aspirations considerably higher than the national average’. This is similar to other gay publications such as GT. This is something I want to stray away from for my target audience towards my book. I want to focus my publication towards a younger market who are interested in finding out about current queer culture and how and why it has developed to this stage.
I would like to book to be at the lower end of the price point spectrum to make it accessible to this audience, although a consideration of this must also be that the book needs to be durable and withstand multiple uses, as it is not a one read type of publication (such as a magazine).
A similar type of publication would be the existing product research I completed on my blog at an earlier stage, although these were all based around the idea of one persons personal story. Making it a single read novel type book, where as I would like my book to be focused more towards being a informative quirky style, that could be read and put down then gone back to as a reference at a later date.

Established audience:

Younger design conscious <25’s who are interested in discovering more about queer culture.
