Queer British Art Exhibition - Primary Research

This exhibition was featuring works from 1861-1967. I wanted to include this exhibition in my primary research to give me an idea of the queer communities influence on the world through art, the way that the pieces were received when originally presented also allows me to compare my reaction to the pieces now; allowing me to have a further insight into the way the queer community is perceived through the eyes of the public and how it has changed.

The works include influences of and or have come from artists that identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBT). The show was put together to commemorate 50 years of legalisation of the partial decimalisation of male homosexuality in England. The artwork explores how artists expressed themselves in a time when assumptions were being presumed about gender and sexuality, which were then challenged and questioned through this artwork. The artworks range from playful stories to politically charged expression in forms both erotic and domestic.

The rooms themselves throughout the exhibition were split into 8 different sections each one exploring a different element and time period of the thoughts and expression towards the LGBT community.
