Stock considerations/costings
When it comes to considering which stock should be used within my book, there are many factors I need to take into consideration, such as, the actual use and format of the book itself, while also taking into consideration the target audience; the book must be durable but affordable.
As the audience for the book is towards the young adult end of the spectrum, it is aimed at travellers who have more slightly disposable income. Thus, the book does not need to be right on the lowest end of the spectrum either, and this will be evident in my choices. Normally when I think about creating a product for a young adult/student market I would use a standard 80GSM paper stock, or even less; allowing that product available for the most inclusive amount of that demographic possible. Although being a book for someone who is culturally involved and has the ability to be able to go to these kinds of places, the price point and stock expectations must also be raised. I am considering between using an Olin Regular 120GSM or 200GSM stock, as this is not overly expensive and gives the feel of a robust page within the book.
The paper used must be robust and durable, being a pocketbook aimed towards travellers this book will see its fair share of use and will be used on a daily basis, as well as possibly added to, with the interactive features I want to add. Therefore, the thicker of the two stocks would be best to produce the book on, as it will not wear down as quickly. The thicker stock will also be able to support the interactive features of the book in a more reliable way. Though if I were to use this stock it would have to be taken into consideration with the binding method, as the paper would be difficult to fold, this is something I will have to further investigate through conversation with the print resources available to me.
Costings:
Olin Regular 200GSM- £18.75 per 100 sheets
Olin Regular 120GSM- £13.75 per 100 sheets
