Philip Normal – Brixton Market
Philip Normal is a clothing and accessories store that creates garments that are inspired by queer culture, constantly changing and developing to make LGBTQ+ culture an inclusive part of the fashion world. It is located in the already established but up also ‘trendy and hip’ Brixton Market.
The clothing itself captures classical and contemporary queer culture in an almost humorous way. It allows anyone to see the light in the way it is visually representing the way that queer culture can be influenced by entertainment, celebrities, fashion and even just particular visual links that are associated with the queer community.
The company
are making the influence of queer culture open to a broader market, which is
evident through their appearance on BooHoo, which proved to be a great success.
Showing not only how queer culture is becoming more open and accepted by the
public, but also how queer culture itself is becoming a more mainstream
concept. This is another reason why I wanted to look into this particular
brand, as I want to make my book inclusive and open to interpretation to a
wider audience to be able to perceive it in an understandable way, rather just
than the LGBTQ+ community itself.
