Tea Exploration through shape

  • Different gradients of tea depending on how much milk is added, overlaid and opacity changed to give a mix of light and dark results.
  • colour swatch style.

  • this is an extension of the last experiment overlapping of more circles created more tone and depth giving a more realistic finish.
  • deceiving and illusion.

  • the spoon movement experiment inspired me to use circles to create the shape of a teapot through laying them out in a particular way.
  • inspired by black traditional tea ceremony pots, which are cast in clay and have a circle pattern remaining from the cast.

  • made to look like the spoon face when stirring the tea and its movement as it moves inside and out of the cup.
  • made by creating a single oval which was copy and pasted many times to create the look of movement.
  • slightly moved further away each time it is pasted.

  • made to ressemble the flower of a camellia sinesis plant, which is the plant all teas come from.
  • made from overlaying shapes in various tones with various opacities.
  • added texture through various layers applied over eachother.

  • this is a representation of the main locations in the 17th and 18th centuries booming tea trade across the globe.
  • the red dots representing the locations of the main countries.

  • following the path of a spoon in a mug of tea when stirring.
  • capture movement as something visual/solid.
  • used the pen to make original sketch and draw using pen tool in pages.

  • taking apart the components of a new tea bag.
  • thus taking it back to its original uncomprised factors.
  • simple vector image
  • no line used in filled in shape, keeping idea of basics and simplicity.

  • incorporate the colours of the main 6 types of tea found in the current tea market.
  • identical in form but different through colour.
  • various layers.
  • added texture through the use of non opaque layers.

Tea Typography Experiments

I began to explore the word tea typographically by using teabags themselves, writing the letters on them, this could work as a type face as they are physical objects that could be re-arranged to spell anything. It can be adapted to any typeface style, this is a simple and basic example which has been arranged and photocopied. Although, I like the way it looks home-made and almost basic, as a tea bag is something that is so cheap and easily acceptable.

To explore the object typographically I took the brief literally and created the alphabet through using a light box and tea leaves that have been taken out of the tea bag. This created texture, although would be impractical for a type to be used in any context.

James E. Powell - Wayfinding

James E Powell is an American photographer created a project could looking into the past, this project was his most popular first launched in 2009. The project itself consisted of folder imagery which is printed how doctoral modern scene and show the contrast between old and new, this technique is something of an interesting and something which I believe could be used as a wayfinding system in some sort of way. Almost linking history to modern day in a visual manner. This is something I will be exploring in my wayfinding system, as I wish it to be entirely visual, and believe this may be the answer and element of how I could possibly do this.

Armelle Caron - Wayfinding

Armelle Caron is a French artist who works a lot with the idea of mapping, therefore I thought she would be interesting to look into in terms of inspiration for my wayfinding system. The most relevant work depicts a map in which she is cut up and rearranged to a tidier layout according to size. The components are rearranged to make them look almost an identifiable as the original map. The French artist displays the original maps alongside the decontextualized shapes, giving the audience and context of how the map started and how the map finished. This is an interesting idea in which it is presenting the audience with something they already know, although it has been rearranged to create intrigue into looking like something they no longer recognise. This is something interesting and I believe could influence part of my wayfinding system, or my further research.
