Town Hall Marker |
These mock-ups show the place that the asterisks would be
placed on the ground, although originally I thought this would be done using
vinyl, after further consideration they would need to be painted on. They would
need to be painted due to weathering, after people walking on it and severe
rain vinyl would wear away, whereas if they were painted almost like road floor
signals they would not be worn away and if they were they could be touched up;
this is because I want the wayfinding system to be a permanent feature.
First marker is the location outside of the town hall,
although not the exact location that the first image was taken from this is the
best angle to which the olden black and white image still lined up to the
building. It is not the exact location due to new buildings and obstructions
diverting the path. This is an issue that I also found in some of the other
marker locations, the marker needs to be slightly moved in order for the
wayfinding system to work successfully. A prime example of this can be seen in
the corn exchange marker in which due to new roadways, the place which the old
image was taken, is now a road; I've attempted to avoid this by placing the
marker within a small island which could be stood on to be able to align the
image. Although without time constraints I would be able to search for an image
from a better angle within the same time era, in keeping with my theme, but
also in keeping with the changing map of Leeds from the developments.

Arrow Example |
This mockup shows the way that the arrows could be used to
direct the audience, due to the nature of the arrows (only being visible at
turning points in the wayfinding system) they need to be large, therefore their
large and at eyesight level making them highly recognisable. Similarly, to the
way in which final cannot be used for the other pictograms on the street due to
weathering this would also need painting on. Because of the contact they have
been put in the arrows almost looked like urban art, adding to the
modernisation of the city landscape which my wayfinding system is highlighting,
further showing how the city is constantly adapting and changing to modern day
life.
