Bike Path |
This is a simple sign telling drivers and pedestrians that they are approaching a bike lane, this is a typical pictogram which is used all over the country and is instantly recognisable. A blue background is used against white writing as it stands out from city surroundings, making it clear for the audience; these features are needed because the audience will be travelling at speeds so the meaning needs to be communicated without the use of text.
 |
Warning Cyclists
This is a text only sign, this is a way-finding system that has not been successful. although it includes all of the features needed to be clear for the audience, but due to its nature of being solely text based people in cars, who is its target audience will not be able to instantly recognise its meaning. For this part of the wayfinding system to be successful a pictogram would need to be developed.

Handmade Pictograms |
These symbols were found on a bus stop near Woodhouse, they are sprayed on and seem to be part of some sort of wayfinding scenes. Although the only person who can truly know the meaning of them is the artist, although from seeing this it can only be perceived as no sitting.
 |
Stop Sign on Entrance |
This wayfinding sign is a part of a larger system, this is signifying that nothing, person nor vehicle should pass. This sign is clear and concise due to the stop sign pictogram, and from the large main text of the sign; which is backed up and further detailed by the smaller text below. this sign is successful due to it being clear, although it could be deemed unsuccessful due to the need for the barrier next to it; if the sign was truly successful the barrier would not be needed.
 |
Directional Sign |
This is a categorical
generalisation of the roads ahead, which is typical of a UK road sign.
although, I do not believe it is successful in terms of a wayfinding system due
to the amount of information put onto the one sheet. The over saturation of
information deems some of it unimportant, and detracts the way the information
should be regarded by the audience.

Caution Wet Floor |
These signs are part of a wayfinding system that guides a person around a particular area, a warning to a particular dangerous area. This shows the development from a wayfinding system that did not originally serve it's purpose. the sticker on the ground did not work shown by the need for something different. The cone works better as it is raised of the ground, forcing being to avoid it when placed in their path. The sticker does not have the same effect as people can still pass over it with ease.

Minimalistic Signage |
This wayfinding system was found in a store, it is successful in terms of being bold and standing out, whilst also concise and clear about its meaning, destination purpose and route. Therefore, this shows me in certain context simplistic signs work better than some more complicated detailed signs, serving their basic purpose.

Trinity Wayfinding System |
These are the wayfinding systems found in Trinity shopping center, to me they seem inappropriate in their job. This is something which is hard to be able to get a equal balance of depicting information concisely but also presenting all of the information needed. the information given by text is needed to be supported by text because of the size of the text in the context the information tends to get lost.
 |
Escalator Pictograms |
These are all pictograms and wayfinding systems found on the escalators of Trinity shopping center. The pink footprints are a pictogram to show where you should put your footprints, showing the audience that there should be two people per step. This is clear and easily identifiable to only one meaning, reconsolidated by its bright colour; standing out from wayfinding in its surroundings.
 |
Trinity Floor |
Again this shows an example of unsuccessful wayfinding, the sign on the ground is there to divert someone around a particular area. although, evidently the diversion bands and bollards have been added to cause a physical diversion similar to how the cone was used. This shows me in cases of a diversion needs to be above ground level and a physical diversion to cause a person to move, as when it is something the audience has a choose in how they perceive it they more than likely ignore it.
