My idea is to create a way finding system that is based
entirely on visuals it aims to bring the past of Leeds into direct comparison with
the ever changing streets of Leeds. It is there to bring a sense of the city’s
history to new people in the city whether there moving here or here for the
day; making it perfect for anyone from students to tourist. Images, will be
found on the Leodis collections, from different parts in the 20th
century, will be overlaid with a pictogram, which will either line up with the
current building and its surroundings or the directions between each of the
locations. My design will take this into consideration, being concise and
design conscious to appeal to a younger audience and contrast against the older
imagery used, whilst being clear to be able to appeal to others in my target
demographic, therefore it must be able to be understand by all, hence the use
of only visual way finding methods. My research will be reflected in the design
by making it entirely visual, and also adding a subjective nature to the
design, this give it a level of interaction I believe is not found on all way
finding methods. Due to my wide demographic my final outcome will be easily
used, to meet this requirement I will use simplistic presentation methods that
makes the user read the information in a particular way.
