Wayfinding Intial Ideas/Crit

My initial ideas include looking at things in Leeds which are kind of hidden or that don't exist anymore, I think this to be a unique idea in contrast to current existing wayfinding systems. The whole definition of a wayfinding system is directing your way around a particular area although these only exist for existing things.

Contrast this I thought I could create a wayfinding system based around the history of Leeds, or secret scenes of Leeds such a secret bars. Looking at secret bars I could also look at underground clubs and the well-known past of the Leeds rave culture. This would provide me an audience in Leeds which is to attend these events, and wish to reminisce. I also thought I could look at key locations in terms of crime, for examples famous crimes in Leeds, taking people around the locations and educating them on what happened.

In contrast to this I also thought that I could create my wayfinding system around public art spaces, as there is plenty of public art and history of Leeds in various locations with enough spacing in between to be able to direct people around a particular. This could also lead to an art event, such as Leeds print Festival. An event would be interesting to wayfinding system about as it would be something which is not lasting after, which could lead me into looking at the idea of having a degrading wayfinding system; which weathers away after time.

Mining the ideas of the initial ideas I have had so far I think came to the idea of trialling a wayfinding system based around the oldest things in Leeds, such as the oldest pub, oldest building, oldest road etc.

The initial ideas crit, told me that should focus my research and looking into two of the ideas, one of them being ‘gone bust’ a publication looking at the bigger spaces in Leeds which have now been shut down, such as clubs and pubs, shops and music venues; this idea could also include a who is next section. This is something be interesting to explore in terms of layout, bookbinding, and photography.

Although the idea of creating wayfinding system based around the oldest different locations in Leeds also became very popular. These are the two ideas that be influencing the beginning of my research.
