LCC’s way finding system used to consisted of pieces of
stray paper mix from the previous environmental graphics scheme. The main
challenge faced when trying to create a new wayfinding system for LCC is
finding a solution that would work in the four different buildings and be
adaptable enough to be able to change rooms and names when necessary, it should
also be cost-effective due to the college's upcoming move. The solution was to
create bright coloured cards which could be placed into pinhole boards
therefore being interchangeable with other information and easily disposable at
low cost. This also meant that the wayfinding system could change depending on
events, such as open days or exhibitions. Each of the signs change colour
depending on the building location, adding a sense of visual linking to
direction and site location. Again an official factor which I would like to
take use inspiration from in my wayfinding system.
