Objective and Subjective Symbols

Symbol for Rebellion
This is my symbol for rebellion, this would be presented super graphic. I believe this is an objective symbol as it shows rebellion against print methods, the way in which the letter form is cut out from the dark background, shows a difference to how print normally makes a mark on a page this one is removing it. This is then contrasted against bright pink, once again rebellion towards normal printing methods as it would normally be printed on white. I believe the addition of colour also adds an interesting contrast between the solid black of the surroundings of the letterform.

Rebellion in Context
I believe my design has been successful in showing rebellion through the link of the letter form to the process that is being made. I do not want to process this through illustrator and vectorise the image and wanted to keep a handmade look to it, once again showing a rebellion against normal digital methods. Rebellion is also shown through the use of the lease and expressive outcome; the R is not aligned nor straight, therefore showing rebellion against the trend of clean Modern design when creating signs and symbols. This mockup shows the way in which the sign could be used in different contexts, it has been placed twice within this image incomplete different ways. As a super graphic it can be overlaid on top of any surface ignoring depth. The way in which have mocked these designs up shows this.

Aggression Original Sketch
The next word I focused on creating a symbol for was aggression, within this wanted to do something a bit more illustrative. After various experimentation into different methods I began to look at facial expression the way in which changes when feeling aggressive. It changes the shape of the eyes, giving an almost manga style look, this is something I found in my imagery. This was then traced and rearranged in multiple ways to create this pattern.

Vector Image Colour
I believe this is successful in churning aggression due to the sharp lines of which facing in different directions, in some way showing an outburst of aggression. After producing the original sketch, I vectorised the image, creating the symbol which could be placed into context. As by adding red to the symbol it is further representing aggression as this is the colour of anger, this is something I also explored within my research and thought would be appropriate for this symbol.

Irritation Symbol

The final symbol that I created was to depict irritant, after exploration with different types of irritation, such as skin irritation, visually irritating layouts, and typography exploration within irritating situations; I have come to this piece. It is the symbol for irritation widely known broken up and rearranged, therefore it is something recognisable but completely different lacking in colour and changing the original composition.

After placing the symbol into Illustrator and tracing it to ensure it is a vector image, put into context on the streets of Leeds. This is how it would look as a super graphic, ignoring depth similar to the other mockups that I have completed. Believe it shows irritation threats link to the original sign, reinforced by the way it has been applied to building. Due to the colour and the weight contrast against the building it is almost written to the eyes to look at, this is due to the evident complimentary colours to blue that can be found in the building. Therefore, I believe it successfully represents what it is need to.
