Mossy Bank: Digital Developments

My first digital experiments towards the logo, with taking from a simple drawing of the oak tree leaf which I did an illustrator. The drawing was kept simple so it would be instantly recognisable as leaf, which is reaffirmed by the use of the colours that was taken from the images of the environment. Although the logo needs to be simplistic, I believe that the least by itself was not impactful, nor memorable, and wasn't really identifiable as anything alone.

To further develop this design into something that was more identifiable as a leaf I took inspiration from the town Council logo. The colour split down the centre makes the leaf look more natural and gives the effect of one side having depth. The flat lay colours and keep with the swatches from the images of the other two species of trees, therefore this design incorporates elements from each of the species is a better representation of mossy bank.
in order to add a personal touch which represents the sense of community within the committee I added, the use of fingerprint. The fingerprint represents the way in which the local community putting that thumbprint onto the land and reclaiming it as their own natural environment, rather than having it developed into something else.

within this development the thumbprint is made larger to cover the entire leaf this changes the aspect in which the audience looks at belief, rather than at looking like the thumbprint is on top of the leaf it looks like the leaf has come from the thumbprint. Therefore it looks like the committee is helping supporting and continuing the availability of this public green space, rather than putting their mark on it, something which I previously recognised as an issue when a committee are trying to support and develop and enhance nature rather than change it.

I felt as if this was my most successful development as of yet and therefore experimented lightly with the use of text. I wanted to use modern text which was cleunderstandable therefore San serif was the way to go. I chose to use Mr Eaves XL as it is a contemporary typeface which is clear and concise and allows for high readability from a distance, which if the audience are trying to read whilst in setting they would be able to.
This experimentation also highlighted to me that black should not be used for the text on the logo, the back is too harsh and contrast too much against the Greens using the logo giving it an unapproachable feel, which is the opposite of what is needed from a committee which wants to encourage the engagement with the community. Therefore the darker green was used to soften the visual.

With this instrumentation I was taken into account the three different visuals that was at the basis of my experimentation with the trees.  Within this experiment I was taking into account the way in which the three species are separate yet they come together on top of mossy bank. The overlap in the middle also represents the way in which the community come together and use the space. The brown linear paths allow the perception of the piece to change from either being a leaf or a tree. although I do not feel like the visually strong enough to be able to be used on its own, because of the different elements that stick out from that such as the Brown path. Therefore it must be accompanied by text, this text can be one of the darker colours in this instance due to the fact that it is used within the piece, allowing for easier readability.

Within this experimental wanted to take a more modern conceptual approach, the images based on on the three different colours but the opacity has been changed therefore creating multiple layers. the layers represent the different layers that are created within the environment through the different types of flora and forna. the colours they used were taken from the Swatch experiments and new colours are formed due to the changes within the opacity. The text of this image is once again taken from the darker colour pulling this out from the image itself, making the centre of the logo a focal point. The way in which all the points meet together allow the logo to seem more of a singular object, thus supporting the idea of clarity and ease of use. Due to the unique colour and shape that is made through the logo it would gain mossy bank visual notoriety within the local community.

After taking into consideration the way in which the previous developments creates multiple layers which because of the nature of the logo may appear confusing or misshapen for some of the audience, especially viewed from a distance. To combat this I decided to separate the different leafs which allowed me to create three separate outlines by separating the outlines and adapting the colours, once again taken from swatches, I'm able to create a logo which is stronger in terms of it being visible At a further distance,  making it more appropriate for a wider audience. this type of logo would also be cheaper to print due to the less ink used.
