I have chosen to look into the idea of toxic masculinity. I believe
this would be the best idea to investigate into because of the changing ideas
within the controversial issue at the moment across a plethora of industries
that is exploring the changing boundaries associated with the ideas of masculinity.
There have been recent changes within the beauty industry
and the retail industry as I have explored in my initial visual explorations. This
has been recognised in advertising and publications. These are the industries
in which changes being made are most evident because of their clear gender set
boundaries. Thus, are also the industries in which the exploration and experimentation
of said boundaries are most scrutinised.
Though my research, investigation and visual response of
this project I want to examine the social, political and ethical response to
the changes within the ideals of masculinity, and ultimately answer my own
question of is masculinity needed anymore in a world which doesn’t particularly
believe in it.
To be able to gain the best understand of the subject field I
have chosen I will be using various research methods, as the subject is apt at
the moment there is a lot of multimedia source material I can investigate into.
Such as film, social media, books and so on. From this research I will build a
nature of ideas that will look at a head on approach to tackling the issue that
is toxic masculinity.
I also believe this is the correct choice for me as it is a
subject which myself, as a young male adult, can relate to the issues of. Enabling
me to understand the way in which media and industry focuses on masculinity can
change habits, perceptions and engagements with particular products or activities.

limited to:
