Toxic Masculinity - Product Packaging Design Process

In order to create the best possible professional -looking outcome, which clearly explains the way that the product should be made and displayed, I decided to use a mockup as the industry style equipment that would be needed to produce such bottles was not available to me. In order to tie in the rest of the brand with the product itself in a more extensive manner the logo was added to a single part of each of the products. As can be seen in figure 1, a drop shadow and outer glow were experimented with to create the look of them being debossed and spot varnished. This effect was added in order to create a complete and rounded brand. What can be seen below is the debossing element of the concealer box. On the hard plastic boxes such as the highlighter, concealer and moisturiser boxes this would be debossed in the lid itself. Once again this is a process I would have been unable to do with out using a mockup.

In order to create the spot varnish effect that was needed for each of the products,  I added a gradient to the appropriate layers. These are the elements that were grey within the design nets. The elements themselves were taken into consideration in terms of light the light that hits the logo, corresponds to the lighting of that mockup and shadow direction, therefore, giving the most realistic effect of how the product would when actually produced within the industry. As can be seen in figure 2, I took into consideration also the other elements around that particular spot varnish, for example if in the light line of that particular spot varnish there was an element of orange as the was in this picture element of Orange was added to the lower section of the spot varnish to create the look of reflection. Once again adding to the authenticity of these mockup productions.

Due to the nature of the lighting and conditions that needed to be done to create various different styles of the mockup, photoshop was used. Then designs themselves were made in Illustrator and then dropped into smart objects, which I align with the shape of the product to ensure the best possible wraparound which would also correlate with the best shadowing effects.

The positive of also creating the products within photoshop meant that I could compare the products with each other and consider sizes of what the product was when produced. I would not have been able to do this if I was ordering bottles as I would have to wait for the bottle to come before I could start producing the actual finished product.
