Toxic Masculinity - Vloggers Opinions

Jordan Stephens a well-known musician talks a bit here about toxic masculinity and the way in which men are currently perceived is incredibly flawed. References are made to the way in which the media represents males such as giving young men role models in movies like James Bond, which essentially when broken down is a womanizing murder who has spent almost 30 movies running away from his childhood issues. It is also identified that suicide is the biggest killer of men between the ages of 20 and 50, which then raises the question that because of toxic masculinity is this extremity seen as one of the ways in which men are feeling they can only escape this loop of being pretty much shamed for the showing of emotion.

Justin Baldoni - Why I'm done trying to be "man enough"

He believes that as an actor there is a parallel between the men he's playing on the screen and the man that he is in the day to day life. He also discusses the way in which he almost feels that his everyday life is as much of a performance as his everyday life in the way he must act to be accepted as a 'famous person' but moreover as a male in society. As growing up, as identified in previous research, men are told what 'type of man' they should be as they're growing up from society. Part of fitting this norm is being told what you can and cant does, as some acts are seen as feminine, and by embodying any of these traits you are rejecting typical 'masculinity' thus face rejection from the social norms themselves.
"wrong, toxic and has to end"
This leads to people not wanting to fit in with the current broken definition of masculinity but also at the same time not wanting to seem emasculated. Creating a need for balance.
An example of the way a man showing a public display of affection was used here to exemplify the way in which certain men feel as if by engaging with such displays emasculates them, but once they have had reassurance from other males it appears to be accepted.
Baldoni, challenges males in the audience of the talk to change these perceptions and expectations of males, in a masculine way, questioning them if they are 'brave enough, strong enough, confident enough or man enough' to be able to take on the challenge. Therefore almost contradicting himself and fighting masculinity with masculinity.
