To begin my visual investigation with what I had investigated I sketched some ideas and made some digital mockups, in order to get feedback and determine an idea to continue my breif with.
Idea sketches:
- this design idea would feature low poly colour gradients on the labels, this would allow for a multiple colours to be added to the product to be able to eliminate the ideas of different colours changing.
- Two focuses on simplicity the box would be one whole colour, and then the logo would be embossed into the material that the product is made out of, therefore allowing the packaging to have the brand imprinted in a discrete way, similar to the way that the brand is aimed to a broader market and by focusing on a solid colour and minimal branding it is almost questionable what the product itself is.
- This design uses the packaging itself to be embossed on the corner of the product making the boxes reusable and allowing for the packaging to be reused at a later date, with something that cant be removed reminding the user of the brand and to buy again. The label is simply stuck on and therefore can be removed, again another way for people who are worried about being judged for using makeup to be discrete with the packaging.
- This design takes elements from other initial ideas, the design features a solid colour on half of it with the logo splashed across in white, making only half of it visible, the other half would again be embossed into the material in a way that makes it a more tactile and interesting artefact to the touch.
Ideas to develop:
Idea one:
In order to further explore the idea in a more relevant way, I created a quick basic poly pattern within illustrator using triangled and coloured them through a gradient of multiple colours. These colours that were used were found from my previous colour research.
As I feel this idea is most impactful I experimented with creating some mockups to see how the style would suit on a mailout box.

Idea four:
Design four was most inclusive of all the ideas so I saw it fit to experiment with the idea digitally and get feedback on how the design worked in correlation to the brand values. The design features a solid colour that when combined with a white background doesn't particularly hold any gender stereotyping, it is highlighted by the high contrast and complimented with a debossed logo. Again helping the makeup not appear to be in fitting with the design of typical 'makeup' design values.
