Courtney Richmond - Further Research

Traditional binding/guilding

I decided to go into a vintage shop and look at old books. I felt this was the best idea to be able to get the full feel for how books with gold decorative leather bound cases are created and bound in the way in which our book could also be produced in a similar way.
Through doing so I found out that the covers were normally debased or embossed as well as gold gilded tartan extra texture most of the books had been bound using stitching methods, which had then been bound with glue in a perfect bind manner. This is due to the size of the books in order to ensure that they (in a consideration that we should take into account when contacting printers due to the fact that the images need to be fully seen no matter what page they are placed on.

Use of typography within a fashion photography book:

I began to look into the investigation of how typing photography can be mixed within a surrealist way in order to offer a complimentary start of the images within the book. As can be seen below I began to look at the way in which type can directly mix with an image in order to create a seamless field between the two.

I also began to look into type manipulation in a surrealist way, for example both of which is can be seen here where type has been manipulated to create depth due to the direction of which elements have been pulled.
This tile offers a surrealist tone due to the way in which the visual is not as expected this confusion of the mind with extraordinary to what is normally expected and therefore by definition surrealists, and also representative of the marvellous.
