Courtney Richmond - Type Selection

in terms of type selection for the book itself I decided to give two different options to the photographer herself these will be presented within the next meeting alongside with any other research I've created before the design of the book is carried out. First will be experimented with is called ‘Warnock’ it is a display type that is focused around stylisation. The typeface can be seen in figure 1. This typeface I will be experimenting with due to the ability to be changed so much through the line weighting and stylisation, for example the italic looks completely different to the semi-bold this ability to have similar characteristics but also have a completely different style when changing font I feel with great representation of the way in which surrealism can be representative of one think mean a complete other.

I will also be experimenting with Baskerville due to the traditional nature of the book, Baskerville is one of the oldest types and I feel is fitting for the hardback leather gold gilded book in which we are aiming to create. The typeface is reflected in the time of the outside of the book but will also create a contrast with the modern style of the layout within the book therefore creating an element of surrealism in the terms of a contrast of two different styles placed against each other. I will also be editing the type to be able to give it a more modern feel in terms of experimenting with kern, layout and weight.
