Courtney Richmond - Layout

Modular Grid
In terms of layout 13 x 18 modular grid was used this allowed for enough room for photos to be presented evenly throughout but also to have a variation of type to also be overlaid/underlaid the images in the way that kept a modular style, and an even width of border around said image. This modular grid also allows for manipulation of the image in terms of creating different layouts and styles amongst the pages where text needs to be added and also so the images can be experimented with so they do not interrupt each other. This is an important part to the book as found out within development one and two which can be seen below, both of which the photographer rejected the way in which an image is set over another due to the fact that she wishes the images to individually speak for the surrealism element of the book which is then mixed with the modern and traditional styles which are both encompassed within the book.
I trialled this method due to the way in which it made the image of my seem uncomfortable and therefore became surreal to the audience in the same way in which the typography had the same visual effect in making the audience uncomfortable and represented surrealism, and the marvellous. Although the design will be moved forward with the simpler one image per page style, with added surrealism and interesting layouts through the use of this modular grid.
