New Fashion Photography, Book :

I decided to investigate into surreal fashion photography books in order to get a feel for the layout design in which this type of photography encompasses. One book which kept arising within the research is ‘new fashion photography’ this book displays fashion photography images along with short rationales about the shoots and the concept behind the images themselves.

The images of all consistent in the way that they are laid out non-full bleed images with a small white border mixed with full bleed images that particularly fill the entire page. The way in which the images are slightly off adds to the way that the book presents the idea of surrealism, going against the normal expected of a fashion photography book.

Although this book presents in a different light fashion photography, then the book that I will be creating, in terms of the fact that it is a collection of different photographer’s work and therefore needs rational, it allows me to see the way in which photographers see how their work need to be presented. The book I am creating is created by one photographer, showing various shoots along the same concept as part of an editorial collection. Therefore, the use of rational is not needed although a mixture of text with the images I believe works well, especially against the use of white space highlighting the images through the use of clarity, and colour. Colour is used in the way that it is presented so that each spread contains a colour story that is consistent. This could be seen in figure 3 where two separate images have a similar theme of blue running throughout and therefore works as a spread.
