In order to give a better idea of the animation progress Ally was making with the project, and the way in which she was approaching the work please see the following blog post in which she created about the brief:
I've been animating the vectors that Callum has created in After Effects this week. I haven't used features like time remapping in a while, but I was able to find some tutorials that helped me jog my memory on how to use them. I know I should definitely try and be keeping up these skills, as AE is a really useful tool in creating smooth, professional animations.
We decided to use vectors as they are easy to animate in AE. I decided to tackle the trickest bits first - a shot of a glass filling up, and some time remapping for lip sync. This way I would be able to speed through the rest of the animation when the vectors came in from Callum.
The shot glass animation was a chance for me to learn a new skill in after effects, looking at wave warp and masking. I ultimately came away with an animation that looks really good, though I also think it would look good to add a transition into the shot - possible the glasses being slid in from the side before being filled up. I'm still struggling with duplicating the shot glasses as I find that when I make any alterations to one, it affects both, which makes it difficult to create the time delay I want to make the animation appear more natural.
As for time remapping, I found a way to incorporate sliders into the process, which makes it incredibly easy to do once I get going. The mouths are vectors based off illustrations I did, and they are just the mouths for now, as I wait for Callum to rectify the problems we found when importing his files into AE.
We chose to record the audio in a room that is deliberately echo-y as it adds a level of authenticity to a scripted performance, so it feels less formal and more like a casual anecdote. This was based off our inspiration of the "iPhone People Talking Pixel" videos, which had a very similar audio process.
Feedback:
The issues that were spoken about within this blog post were
rectified quickly. The illustrator files which needed amending were due to the
fact that the separate layers were inside a singular group, once the layers
were removed from the group they were editable within after effects.
