Camile Walala is an artist who works with
powerfully bright and exuberant digital prints, alongside her works in art
direction and interior design. She is highly influenced by the Memphis movement,
which is evident within most of her works, as well as optical geometric art. Her
work when put into context almost have a feel of digital screen production, due
to the colours used being so vibrant in comparison to the surroundings that
they are put in. Her Memphis influences are clear in the fill of her pieces as
well as the colours used, pink and blue contrast well in the way of capturing
this style, as well as the consistent blend of pastel and bright colour mixed
in independent blocks, placed alongside geometric repeat patterns. Her strategic
use of colour within a grid system that accolades the geometric nature of the
pieces, allowing for more space to be filled within a strict grid system,
creating outlines and gaps the almost confuses the eyes dragging attention from
all over, rather than just one element. This is something I would like to
develop within my practice, the use of a grid system to support the content of
my work.
