SB3 Catalogue Development/Final

Developed Grid System

In order to make the catalogue as authentic as possible, in terms of replicating designs to retain a newspaper atheistic, a newspaper was measured to ensure the most accurate grid system possible. Through creating a system like this it allows the most content possible to be applied to the page, meaning the catalogue size can be reduced to less sheets. The grid system was created using 6 colums and 5 rows with a  5mm gutter, the secondary grid placed over this consists of 12 columns, 20 rows, also with a 5mm gutter. The two grids give the opportunity to place different types of content abiding by different grids. This is the technique used by newspapers within their layout.

The final catalogue would be printed on newsprint, as well as keeping the costs down it allows for a stronger visual link with making the catalogue appear to be a ‘newspaper’. The branding is constantly plastered over multiple of the pages, this means the brand identity is constantly put out to the audience, being a newsprint style publication it is not bound; also meaning that when the pages are taken apart the brand is still evident. To ensure this consistent brand identity representation the three stripe logo has been used as it is most versatile and relatable to the other logo variations.
The layout itself allows room for both all of the designs that are part of the exhibition as well as a short explanation, this is where the designer could put their name, and possibly a link to their creative social media accounts.
