Blue Blood Trial 1 |
This is the original visual that I used to create the initial
idea development, this was taken from an image that I found of a colour splash,
I recoloured it blue and printed it. Adding the fold allowed me to create a
light and dark contrast between each of the sides. As this image was taken from
the internet I wanted to develop the idea by further exploring different medias
to create a visual, based around the tones and method of this; through
spreading the paint and other materials to create a loose expressive interpretation
of a blood smudge.

Blue Blood Trial 2 |
This experimentation is using watercolour
paints, creating a movement with one brushstroke overlaying each other, until
the brush became dry creating a blurred edge. The way the paint blurs out works
as it depicts an end, contrasting against the denser colour depicting the
living. Although the shape of the experiment looks more like a spillage rather
than a shot orientated stain. In further experiments I will be working with the
shape.

Blue Blood Trial 3 |
This visual experiment takes
elements from the first two, the shape has been more rounded to create the
visualisation of a stain created by a bullet. To create this, I used water
colour pencils allowing for what seems like a multiple layer image that gives
the effect of more than one material used. Leaving this scribble effect gives a
childlike vibe, this is something I wanted to carry out from previous designs
(to represent the movement from innocence to experience), this media allows me
to do so, as the scribbles become paint. To capture the themes of segregation
and racism I have used a fold, found in the first experiment, to visualise a
physical difference between the light and dark sections, separating them.

Chosen Trial |
Development 3 is the imagery I have
chosen to use within my final cover design. I have further edited this to
increase the intensity of the blue within the design, making it vibrant will
pull out the intensity of the concept behind it. Through doing this I have also
made the scribbles underneath more evident, pulling them to the forefront of
the image. I have also created a greater contrasts between the light and dark
sections, creating almost a gradient to a sharp edge effect, resembling the
sharp segregation and representation of racism and division in other aspects of
the book with more visual impact.
