SB4 Production

Once the pages have been designed the production of the first calendar needed to be completed. I would print two to use one as a trial and proof read, in terms of checking spelling and dates of the calendar, as well as testing perforation and binding technique. Within my last crit it was discussed about printing the design on newsprint, although I believe it's the colours I've used us a specific I do not want to jeopardise this by using an off-white colour stock. Therefore, I would be printing on cartridge paper, due to time constraints I was unable to obtain a print slot between when this work was set and the hand in. Therefore, I will be using the standard laser printers to print this outcome, although this will not get as good quality as the industry standard printers down in the print room. As I will not be at this in the print room I will have to use the paper stock that is provided, if we were to have more time I would be able to book a print slot and have the prints produced professionally.

Once the design has been printed and bound the top of it with staples, giving the stability and strength. Staples were covered with black card in order to keep with the aesthetic of the piece, this was also added to the `strengths to the piece. Before stapling together each of the sheets perforated each one, therefore making it easier for the receiver of the calendar to be up to rip away each month without destroying the calendar itself. As this was done under the binding it will not affect our claim to hangs as the months move on.

Digital print was the most appropriate method of production for my piece due to the amount of different hues evident within each of the illustrations. Each of the illustrations have 12+ layers to give them sense of depth. Screen printing such images would have taken too long and not met the brief deadline. In terms of making the calendar academic this was the best decision in order to fit with the target audience, as this is a calendar that will be hanging in their rooms and they will only be in their rooms during term time.
