After completing my research into the visual style of the
illustrations that would be the best fitting for travel for London campaign, I
decided to start illustrating straightaway referencing the research I'd
completed.
As I had already previously discussed and decided what the imagery I would like to be using for each of the copy, and also the style in
which would be doing it in made a process of designing a lot simpler and a lot
smoother.
In order to begin illustrating for each of the designs I
search the web for a reference image this is an image that was not to be copied
but to use for scale purposes to ensure that the illustrations I was creating
were to the correct scale e.g. the fissionable would be the correct size etc.
Illustration Process:

The reference image itself showed a more complex image to
the one I wanted to create, it contained a lot more lines, that and colours
compared to the one I wanted to create which resembled the travel for London
branding. As previously mentioned these images was an only useful reference in
terms of gaining scale proportions for the illustrations I was creating.

Process 1 |

Process 2 |
Within the process itself I took the same approach as I
normally do when coming to illustrating an illustrator. Rather than using the
pen tool I use a multitude of the shapes overlaid on the Pathfinder tool to
enable me to gain the shape that I need. For example, for the shape of the
water, I used three circles which were then separated to create the shape shown
in process 2, the corners of this within is moved off and the shape was made
whole. Therefore, giving the visual style of a wave of water, with the addition
of the watercolour which would contrast against both the ball in the
background.

Colour Selection |
As a went through the process of the illustration of the
fishbowl each time apart was completed I used the branding document provided
by travel from London to select colours. Each illustration keeps to a theme of
certain colours, which will then be reflected or contrast against in the
background. Through using this method, it keeps the flat illustration style
which was found within my research. Whilst also retaining the bright bold style
which travel to London make clear is needed to be able to obtain the correct
tone of voice for the brand.

Final Oxygen Illustration |
A similar process was used throughout the illustration of the
two other elements which were to be used within the campaign, as can be seen
below I've included both references and the final illustration itself.
