LGBT - Idea 2 exploration

The concept behind idea 2 is to have an extenuation of the flag passing through the visuals that would be used as part of each of the branding elements.  The passing through of the flag itself being stretched would be representing the rise in representation of the LGBT+ community in the media industry. The elongation of the flag has two reasons behind it, the first being to take away the direct visual link to being the LGBT+ flag structure itself, similar to the experiments in the first trials. The shape that is made is considered. I wanted to be able to represent the passing of knowledge and experience from the industry visitors and professionals to the people who are attending the event itself. I also felt that, per the brief, it was important to represent visually the celebratory nature of the event, as well as receiving talks from a section of the media community in London, they're celebrating the rise in representation of the LGBT+ community in the industry. To show this, as shown in my previous sketches, I created a graph style visual that shows a rise, giving this visual reference to the audience.

Initial Shape Trials:

Figure 2
Figure one was the initial trial of converting a flag into a graph like a shape that could be used as a hero graphic as part of the branding for the event through creating a sharp difference in direction the banner style graphic clearly represents a rise, which was part of the concept itself. The colours have been kept as the original bold colours used within the flag. This type of graphic allows for a clear visual link to the LGBT+ flag itself but the change in structure distracts enough that it could be used with other content and not be overbearing. Due to the nature of the graphic as well it is malleable into many different variations to be able to be added to different branding components, such as a profile image etc. The strong strip can be overlaid with text which would also add an element of depth to completed promotional materials.
Figure 2 is a response to some feedback from peers, once the concept behind the graphic was explained they responded saying the point of turn should be sharper to allow for the idea behind the link to a graph like structure would be more evident; strongly representing a rise. In order to experiment with the way that the graphic could work alongside branding collateral that would be needed for the event, I decided to create some mockups, disregarding text and type choices, solely focusing on the way the graphic may work.

Initial Mockups:

Within my trials I decided to explore the way in which the exploration would work in the material that it would need to become, as I had previously done with the first idea. I feel as if all of the trials are successful in terms of creating a poster and identity format that works alongside the concept and the brief. Although the way in which the black makes the colours appear doesn’t particularly work as well with this concepts visualisation, as it almost intensifies the colours, where as the white - due to its airy nature, neutralises it which makes the visuals more fitting for the brief to create an identity that is representative but not too overbearingly reliant on the rainbow itself. Yet this is contradicted with the use of white as it makes the only colour actually visibly evident on the piece  itself.
In order to see how the visual content could be carried over to different platforms where the identity would need to be visible, I decided to create a quick mock of a banner, that could be placed into a social media context. As for the identity to work as a whole it needs to be carried across and be visually relatable in many different platforms and medias. I feel the ident of this works although yet again the colours come across a bit too intense and domineering to the piece,  this is something I will be discussing when I take this work to crit, and develop further.
